The recipient of the BC Odyssey of the Mind 2014-15 Scholarship is Toren Dofher from Port Coquitlam.
Toren has been involved with Odyssey of the Mind for several years, through Jabber-Wacky Summer Camp, as a team member for three years, and later as a volunteer at events like our annual Science World booth, tournaments, Spontaneous Attack and also as an assistant coach with his younger sister's team. He has a passion for leadership, and beside his Odyssey related endeavors Toren has also been a member of the student council, his school's Anti-Bullying Team, and volunteered at a soup kitchen on the downtown East side. During one of the past Spring Breaks he traveled to New City to work with impoverished children in the Bronx. Toren is currently in his first year at University of British Columbia pursuing a degree in Engineering.
Quote from Toren: "I want to say thank you again for this amazing scholarship. Odyssey of the Mind played a huge part in my development as a student and as a human being. This scholarship is worth a lot to me but the lessons that Odyssey of the Mind has taught me are priceless. (...) Odyssey of the Mind (...) showed me just how powerful the imagination can be, especially when combined with ideals such as teamwork, problem solving and having fun. My creativity was always there, in my head, but Odyssey showed me that great ideas did not have to stay in my head; they could be developed and become real with hard work and passion."
